Data Visualization (or DataViz)
Data Visualization (DataViz) is a general term that describes any effort to help staff understand the meaning of data by placing it in a visual context. Thus, a data visualization software will allow to highlight and identify patterns, trends and correlations, which could go unnoticed within textual data.
Current data visualization tools go beyond the standard graphs and curves used by Excel spreadsheets. They display data in more sophisticated ways, including computer graphics, dials and gauges, geographic maps, spark lines, heat maps, and detailed bar graphs, in sectors and advancement (fever chart).
Images can integrate interactive capabilities that allow the user to manipulate them or explore the data for query and analysis purposes.
These tools may also have indicators designed to alert the user when the data is updated or when pre-defined conditions are met.
The majority of business intelligence software publishers (BI, Business Intelligence) incorporate data visualization tools into their products either by developing their own technology or by sourcing from visualization publishers.
